Throw The Temple was formed by Gabriel Gambino in 2009 with original members Greg King on drums, Jeremy Metcalf on bass and Aldo Gallegos on guitar over an advertisement on Craigslist. This incarnation of the band played one show, an appearance on live, local based cable Channel 27 in September of 2009 before adding vocalist Will Stanley to the group.
Throw The Temple played with Stanley from January to June of 2011 before deciding to part ways with the vocalist. Strapped to find a singer and unwilling to wait on the sidelines, Gabe stepped up to take over vocal duties, and new music was written, displaying the new direction the band had been seeking musically. Over time, the band picked up more shows, playing with notable local bands like Indemnified, Brave New World and SuperGiant. They also had the chance to play with some national acts along the road, like LA locals Attaloss, KRASHKARMA, Warner Drive and ACIDIC.
At the beginning of 2012, the band sought to record a demo, and connected with local sound engineer Markus Adams to accomplish the three song release. In early March, the band made its first trip out of New Mexico, travelling to El Paso, Texas to play at the House of Rock in support of Attaloss' tour. After finishing their set, they walked into the opportunity to play the 13th annual Heart of Texas Rockfest in downtown Austin during South by Southwest music week. Without hesitation, the boys drove back to Albuquerque, packed bags, and made the trip straight out to Austin. On March 15, 2012, Throw The Temple played their showcase at TX Rockfest. The showcase was headlined by hip hop artists Mobb Deep and Raekwon. Citing personal reasons, Jeremy Metcalf, the band's original bass player, decided to move on and stop playing music prior to the band's demo release. This prompted the band to recruit Nuclear Reign frontman and former Dread lead guitarist Antonio Camarena to fill in on bass for a few shows.
In April 2012, the band was one of over 100 bands to enter local station 104.1 The Edge's contest to be chosen to play Edgefest 2012, the first EdgeFest concert in eight years. Throw The Temple did very well in the contest, being one of just 6 local bands to play the festival, securing a spot late in the line up. The festival was headlined by Incubus and featured national acts like AWOLNATION, Anberlin, Dirty Heads, Neon Trees, and Cage the Elephant. The band celebrated their demo release the night before Edgefest at a show in Rio Rancho, NM to good reviews and many sales. The band was also invited shortly thereafter to play on local talk show The After After Party with Breaking Bad's Steven Michael Quezada in May. The episode is expected to air in the near future. Shortly after, Throw The Temple found the permanent bassist they had been searching for. Kody Audette brought a new live dynamic and stage presence that made the shows something to talk about. After many shows with Kody, the band has started writing new music that is currently being recorded and will be released soon as part of an extended version of their First Demo.
Most recently the band was one of just five nominated for 104.1 The Edge's Edgy Awards for "Best Local Band" in Albuquerque, NM. A win for Throw The Temple would make them the first band to receive this award. With an intriguing, high-energy stage show and songs that will keep you grooving from start to finish, the guys in Throw The Temple are dedicated to continue building momentum, recording more of the music that their fans are begging for, and are currently planning their first west coast tour in the coming months.
